February half term workshops with St Luke’s Lunch

Published on 3 March 2023.

In February half term we held creative sessions at St Luke’s Lunch.

The sessions were busy with lots of families making wraps for lunch and taking part in the creative workshops.

On the Monday, the children worked with Travelling Light artist Edwina Bridgeman, creating their own artwork inspired by the 2017 Turner Prize winning artist Lubaina Himid. The children were encouraged to take inspiration from the artists exhibition at Spike Island in 2017 and they came up with some wonderfully imaginative creations.

In the picture below you can see some of the children’s work.

In Wednesday’s session, the children enjoyed a storytelling workshop with Daniel Morden of Devil’s Violin. Based on So Hungry, Daniel Morden's picture book story about one boy's amazing dream when he goes to bed feeling hungry and has a weird and wonderful dream where everyone and everything is made of food.

This is what one of the children had to say about the session:

"It was really fun. He told a story with funny characters and was making jokes which were funny! We also made our own drawings from different fruit. I made a face out of bananas!"

It sounds like the creative sessions were a success - enabling children to enjoy free creative play and firing their imaginations.

Thanks so much to everyone who donated to our Big Give Christmas campaign in December 2022. The funds raised from this campaign enabled us to deliver these free opportunities for children in the school holidays, as well as the free community trip to the theatre for children and their families in Barton Hill. You can read more about the community trip here.
