About the show

Our 22nd production was a collaboration between 3 theatre companies - Travelling Light, Nottingham Roundabout and New Perspectives - who commissioned a play from Mike Kenny for young children to watch with their grandparents. The 3 companies made their own versions of the script. Ours toured widely from January - June 2001, and was remounted in summer 2002 for a tour that included visits to festivals in Scotland, Italy, USA and South Korea. The script later became Mike Kenny's most-performed one, having been translated into several languages and produced all over the world.

Every year, Esme goes to stay with her grandparents at the seaside. This year, everything has changed. Grandad Stan finds it hard to find the right words to tall Esme that her grandmother has died, so he invents a new life for Nanna Queenie as a tightrope walker.
