Safeguarding
We are a theatre company that specialises in work for children and young people. We have a duty of care to the children and young people we work with, to support their welfare and well-being.
Safeguarding is about keeping young people safe while in our care. It is also about making sure that staff, freelancers and volunteers know what to do if they have concerns about the welfare of a child. As a company that puts children at the heart of what we do, safeguarding is a fundamental part of our ethos.
We recognise that:
The welfare of the child/young person is paramount.
All children, regardless of age, ability, gender, racial heritage, religious belief, sexual orientation, or identity, have the right to equal protection from all types of harm or abuse.
Working in partnership with children, young people, and parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young people’s welfare.
Our Safeguarding Policy applies to everyone involved in Travelling Light – staff, trustees, freelancers, students and volunteers. It is the duty of each person to follow it.
For clarity, our Safeguarding Policy refers to the overall protection of all young people and the measures in place to prevent harm while they are in our care. Our Child Protection Policy is closely linked to the Safeguarding Policy and refers specifically to the processes of protection and identification of children who are at risk of experiencing or have already experienced significant harm.
We are committed to reviewing our policy and good practice annually.
