Youth Theatre performances to family and friends

At the end of last term we had a joyful couple of evenings as our Youth Theatre groups all shared their performances with family and friends.

Celebrating the creativity and imagination of our Youth Theatre

On Monday 30 March, Louder Than Words and 13-16’s performed to family and friends, and then 6-9’s and 10-12’s presented their performances on Wednesday 1 April.

It was a moment to come together and celebrate the creativity and imagination of our Youth Theatre members and the artists that support them.

Themes for the performances

Over the last year our Youth Theatre groups have been exploring ideas that were inspired by our research and development sessions with children and artists, which followed our Winter Lights event in January 2025.

Trees, magic, a sense of community and nature are themes that emerged over the last year as the groups worked in their weekly sessions, and together at various points in the year, to devise the stories they performed.

They worked incredibly hard and we were thrilled to share their pieces and each group’s unique and collaborative ideas.

About the pieces

Under My Feet I Can Feel…by Louder Than Words

A radio station, the mighty LTW Radio Station, broadcasts messages about the critical situation caused by climate change.

The group worked really hard to create and build their story, which was developed using a conversation-based R&D during the sessions. Then, word after word, beat after beat, they wrote and created the rhythms for a rap song, which became the show’s soundtrack.

The audience enjoyed a narration at the start of the performance, which was in British Sign Language, performed by Zee.

Before coming here, I never spoke to anyone. But being here has made me interact with new people and make friends through fun games and sessions.

Raindrops Fall by 6-9’s

The 6-9’s piece was set in a forest where the rain has stopped.

We met a cast of creatures, characters and unexpected helpers all trying to bring life back to a place that’s slowly fading.

Created through play, imagination and movement, the piece mixed storytelling, physical theatre and bursts of music, moving between moments of silliness, struggle and small acts of magic.

I enjoy listening to other people’s ideas and building them up into scenes.

Courageous Tree by 10-12’s

Our 10-12’s group presented a documentary piece about the Courageous Tree. From it first being planted, all the way into a distant technological future, via a homage to Scrooge, the group brought the story of the tree to the stage to share with the audience.

In this world, trees, animals and even ghosts could talk, so funny moments and big laughs were had as we travelled through time to better understand the nature of the tree.

[I love] meeting loads of new people and being able to have an hour where I can be free and myself.

The Talking Tree by 13-16’s

In The Talking Tree, our 13-16’s group presented a story about two campers, some lawyers, a magical spoon and a mysterious seed.

A simple camping trip led to conflict between a landowner and the natural world and the reigniting of old rivalries.

I like it here because I have confidence, I never thought I would have when I started. The group gives me confidence to be dramatic and express myself.

A huge congratulations to all the young people that performed and have been part of our Youth Theatre over the last year. And a big thank you to all those who supported the development of the pieces and came to watch.
