Jobs & Opportunities

Job opportunities

For our upcoming tour of The Forest Door, we are looking for:

2 x Performers

The roles require a local base in Bristol or the surrounding areas. No relocation costs or accommodation is available.

About The Forest Door

Following on from a period of successful R&D (read more about the R&D process); and our well-established work with and for schools; Travelling Light are developing a new offer for primary schools and families, ready for touring.

The Forest Door will be a new high-quality theatre offer for primary aged children, incorporating performance, interactive in-classroom activities, support and resources for teachers and families.

The Forest Door is based on ideas from local children who took part in initial R&D with artists this spring - which were further developed by school children in Bristol and Exeter (in partnership with Alibi) - ensuring that children were at the heart and start of how the work was planned and created.

The Forest Door will not just be a show, but an experience that combines participation, play and performance – alongside resources to support further creativity and learning in the classroom, or at home. The children’s participation will shape each performance, making each offer unique to its audience.

The experience follows a child who finds a mysterious doorway into another world. Finding themselves in a magical forest, they meet other creatures about to embark on a big festival…but there is a problem. Together they explore traditions, memories and solve problems, to result in a big celebration with the audience. Audiences will help create and contribute to elements of the story and performance – building skills in creative thinking, communication and creative expression.

2 x Performers

Playing age: you must be 18+
Height: Any
Gender: Any

We are looking for two dynamic and strong physical performers with excellent storytelling abilities.  An open, playful disposition and warm approach to working with young audiences is essential. Clowning, acrobatics and circus experience would be a bonus.

We are looking for performers comfortable with physical movement skills and some musical capability – ability to hold a tune and move to music.

This new work has been developed with local children and school pupils in Barton Hill and Exeter, which will directly inform some of the artistic decisions in the piece.

A base in the South West, particularly in Bristol is essential. Travelling Light is in the heart of Barton Hill, a culturally diverse area in inner city Bristol. We want our work to be reflective of our local audiences, so we are especially interested to hear from performers from the Global Majority; as we are keen this piece is representative of the community we’re based in and the audiences the show will be performing to.

Fee: ITC/Equity rates

Dates: Rehearsals 2 - 21 February 2026

Touring: 23 February – 7 March 2026

Deadline for applications: 10am, Monday 1 December 2025
