“The Great Big Library Shake Up” Play in a Week 2016
Published on 12 April 2016.
Now in its fourth year, our Play In A Week project has become part of the annual offer to year 3 and 4 pupils at Victoria Park Primary School. This year, inspired by their current topic of the works of Roald Dahl, a brand new story was created.
“The Great Big Library Shake Up” mixes up well known Dahl stories such as ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, ‘James and the Giant Peach’ and ‘The BFG’. Added to the mix were ideas that the children pitched to the Travelling Light team and their peers about different characters, locations, songs and action they would like to see in a new story. There’s an Earthquake and a parade of insects, Miss Honey and President Obama, a lovely mixture of quotes and Gobblefunk. A true celebration of the imagination and a nod to the 100th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s birth later this year.
Quotes from Pupils:
“This show is a mash-up with a lot of different stories”
“It’s a good show in my opinion and I just think it’s amazing”
“Roald Dahl classic that is handmade, all made by children from VPPS”
“It’s different, epic, all your favourite characters”
Pupils not only performed in the play but also took responsibility for Design, Choreography, Music, Stage Management and Front of House. The week culminated in two final performances at Bedminster Down Secondary School.
Play in a Week is a unique and innovative way to look at a school’s curriculum in a creative way. Children explore history, geography, science, literacy and numeracy through a theatrical model; which encourages exploration, team work and confidence.
We offer a variety of opportunities for schools and early years settings.
