Hillstories: Telling Tales in Barton Hill
This autumn, Travelling Light and partners Up Our Street and Barton Hill Settlement, are producing the Barton Hill Festival, a celebration of the people of Barton Hill and the stories we have in this shared place. The Festival happens on one day, Sunday 29th October, but the new relationships built in the run up and after the day itself are vitally important, making it a meaningful and authentic experience. Hillstories is a play being developed by young people aged 11-18 in Travelling Light’s Youth Theatre, based on conversations with local residents of Barton Hill and Lawrence Hill. We have been working with specialists in intergenerational community arts projects Wyldwood Arts since May, funded by a grant from the Youth Social Action Fund. We wanted to create an opportunity to mix people up, share stories and have fun together. Following a scratch performance this summer at Redfest, we will be presenting Hillstories twice at the Barton Hill Festival.
