Barton Camp 2015
This summer we were delighted to be invited to run four days of creative workshops at Barton Camp, for The Bristol Children’s Help Society.
Each day while half of the participants went on an off-site trip, we worked with a new group of young people aged 7-11, to make a “Play In A Day”.
Inspired by our surroundings at the camp and following a quest structure, we explored an array of characters, went on adventures at sea on the S.S. Great Barton and even created a machine to take us into the future. This resulted in some imaginative promenade theatre, which was shared with the returning children at the camp.
We were extremely fortunate that we had dry weather to enable 4 performances outdoors, making use of the camp’s interesting spaces. The young people came up with some fantastic ideas and storylines and also enjoyed making props and costume. They managed all of this and a session in the swimming pool, in one day – very impressive!
We look forward to the opportunity to work with The Bristol Children’s Help Society and Barton Camp again in the future.
This project would not have been possible without the generous fundraising by St. Michaels Church, Compton Martin and the dedicated team of volunteers for TBCHS.
