30Fest - a real community celebration
We celebrated our 30th birthday with a free family arts festival at Barton Hill Settlement on 8 June 2014. The day featured short monologues and duologues, performances by our Youth Theatre, storytelling & dance workshops as well as the debut of our community choir and community dance groups.
Over 350 people enjoyed the day.
30Fest provided a significant experience for:
Jane from the dance group: she hadn’t ever done anything like that before but it was fantastic for her to have a regular free to access experience
Marvin from the choir: he’d always wanted to sing in public and finally he could, in a safe and welcome environment
Jasmine, aged nine: she performed in her first professional play THE PATH by Mike Akers, working with actor Craig Edwards and director Sally Cookson
Francis, aged 18: he was trusted in a way he never had been before by performing JESSIE AND ME by Writer Writer-Writer, directed by Craig Edwards
Aled, aged 16: he found his loud voice when he performed THE BONE by xxx xxx, directed by Aaron Parsons
Emily Rose: she volunteered to help photographer Camilla Adams take pictures of the day
Enzo: he volunteered, having just moved to Barton Hill. It really helped him get to know the area and meet people for the first time
Fran: she volunteered in order to get inspired back into working in a creative environment. The day reignited lots of sparks for her
