Mother Savage (2006)
About the show
Our 27th original production toured into local schools and national venues in spring 2006. It was the first show Craig Edwards directed for us, inspired by a short story by Guy de Maupassant that he found.
The Woman is struggling with a life of loneliness after her son deserts her to go to war. The Boy is an enemy soldier, snatched from his family and damaged by what he has seen and done on the battlefield. But now the war is over, the killing has stopped and the occupation begins... As neither character can understand the other's language, the play explores their developing relationship mainly through physicality, movement, dance and music.
The lyrical, dance-like encounters create a moving depiction of the personal conflict of war. Big Issue
It would be a hard heart that leaves the theatre not deeply moved, shaken, and even angry, after watching this play. Sixty mesmerising minutes. Plymouth Evening Herald
