History
Here are some of the company's milestones through the years:
1984: The company is founded by Kim Reuter and Jinny Paige with DOWN AT THE DUMP as its first show.
1990: Arts Council funding awarded for the first time & the company's first visit to an international festival in Poland.
1995: Our most toured show, TIR NA N-OG is created and is shown at the Take Off Festival.
1997: Travelling Light becomes a registered charity.
1998: The first time the company's work is performed at Bristol Old Vic.
1999: INTO THE WEST voted the best piece of theatre for children & awarded a Samuel Beckett by the Dublin Theatre Festival
2001: British Council invites us to take INTO THE WEST to Jamaica for a two week tour & first education officer appointed.
2002: We represent the UK with WALKING THE TIGHTROPE by Mike Kenny at the ASSITEJ 14th World Congress in Seoul.
2004: After Arts Council Theatre Review we receive a significant increase in regular funding from Arts Council.
2005: Two youth theatre groups are started with support from Community at Heart.
2008: SHADOW PLAY is the first piece of non-verbal theatre that the company has devised.
2009: The company embarks on creating its first dance theatre piece HOW COLD MY TOES.
2010: Two concurrent Christmas shows in two major cities - LOST & FOUND at Polka in London and BOING! at Bristol Old Vic.
2011: We are successful in our bid to become an Arts Council National Portfolio Organisation.
